PRICE FORECAST FROM MEPS
MEPS - Asian average
stainless steel flat product prices declined by around 3 percent in
May. Reductions were noted in all countries researched because of
falling raw material costs.
Transaction values are forecast to move lower in the short term.
Nickel costs are likely to moderate and result in Asian stainless
steelmakers reducing their selling figures. Oversupply could add to
the downward price pressure. Uncertainties remain about the global
and Chinese economies. These will, probably, negatively affect

buying activity during the third quarter as customers restock after
the summer lull. Consequently, advances in transaction values are
predicted in this period. However, this recovery may falter as sales
traditionally slow towards the year end.
