WORLD STEEL MARKET REBOUNDS
IN 2010
Further growth is forecast with crude steel output in 2014 expected
to reach in excess of 1.6 billion tonnes
After a dismal period for the global steel sector in 2009, the
predicted recovery in 2010 is already assured. In fact, MEPS
(International) Ltd. forecasts raw steel production, this year, at
almost 1.4 billion tonnes. This equates to a 14 percent increase on
the outturn in the previous twelve months. Further substantial
growth is anticipated to 2014.
Ironmaking in 2010 is forecast to top
1 billion tonnes and climb to near 1.2 billion tonnes in 2014.
This would require an extra 250 million tonnes of iron ore supply.
The questions we have addressed in the new
Global Iron and Steel Production to 2014 report are:
-
Which countries will have the fastest growth
in steelmaking?
-
What will be the growth rate for ironmaking?
-
How will new Indian and Chinese capacity
impact on global output?
-
Where and how much steel will be produced in
future?
