INTRODUCTION
STRONG GROWTH
FORECAST FOR GLOBAL STEEL PRODUCTION TO 2015
MEPS
predicts a record high steel output in 2011. Further increases
are anticipated over the following four years.
The fortunes of the steel industry are no longer heavily
dependant upon markets in the high income countries. Since the
start of the millennium,
the industrial nations
have played a lesser role in steel manufacturing.
Their share of global production has fallen from 50 percent in
2000 to around 40 percent in 2005. It decreased to around 27
percent in 2010 and
is forecast to be below
25 percent in 2015.
MEPS latest annual report
offering a 5 year
outlook on the global steel industry. Forecasts for
production, consumption and steelmaking by process are
included.
