PRICE FORECAST FROM MEPS
MEPS - World Average Hot
and Cold Rolled Coil, grade 304, transaction values reduced by over
$US80 per tonne in April. Domestic prices decreased in all countries
researched, with the exception of Japan. This was primarily due to
lower nickel costs. End-user demand remained lacklustre in all
Stainless steel selling figures are likely to decrease further in
May because of recent declines in raw material expenditure. No major
recovery in end-user consumption is predicted in the short term.
However, we do not envisage prices moving much below current levels
over the next twelve months.
Transaction values are likely to record modest advances in the third
quarter because of renewed buying activity after the summer holiday
period. Traditionally weaker demand during the fourth quarter could
result in prices slipping towards the year end. A revival in
stainless steel prices is anticipated early in 2014 as distributors
restock after the winter.
